Highlands Detroit

You go up 72 floors, the elevator was stable and didn’t creak or anything which is something I was nervous about. It’s a smooth ride up. The view is beautiful, we went around sunset/ night time. The workers are very nice. I will have to say, the food looks better than it tastes. I ordered the 3 course meal for about 90$ I think, and I was pretty disappointed with my meals. They look amazing but they didn’t taste very good. I also ordered lamb chops as my main dish, and I was very disappointed because there was only 2. My brother ordered the steak by itself and that tasted really good, so I would recommend just getting 1 entree vs the 3 course deal. It’s about the same price. Overall, I would come back here, but maybe just for dessert (which I didn’t try). It’s a beautiful spot and amazing view, but I would not come here for the food again. Overall experience 6.5/10

Probably one of the most complete meals we have had where everything from start to finish was excellent. Plenty of nice places where one course or one thing does not meet the rest of the night. Everyone was courteous upbeat and friendly from the host downstairs to the host and hostess upstairs. Plenty of restaurant lounges that you sit in before you eat are difficult to find service in if you're not sitting in the main area but there was plenty of open couch and individual seating and as soon as we sat down someone came up and took her order and checked on us no less than three times while we were waiting for our table. Once seated again the staff was great took note of our food allergy and we never had to mention it again. Every course was excellent and their liquor selection is not only great it is also price lower than what you would expect. Balvenie 14 normally priced around $34 to $35 an pour everywhere else was only 28 dollars. Macallan 18 at $70 is quite a bit lower than the normal $85 to $95 everywhere else. Given the view quality of service and location in comparison to everywhere else it's extremely reasonably priced for the experience. If there's only comment to be made is the fact that they advertise the Canadian Club Chronicle 42 year at $100 a pour. That is extremely overpriced for a bottle that's easily attainable for $350 about a mile away at the duty free and giving its age is a pretty mediocre whiskey. The 43 is just as attainable the same price and is far better than the 42 in every way. The restaurant is classy and beautiful on the inside and the view was a fantastic way to spend the evening.

I was so exited to be surprised with a dinner here for my birthday. The food is so unique and presented beautifully and the presentation is matched or exceeded in taste. Our server, Andie, made sure we were well taken care of and gave some excellent drink suggestions to make our night that much better. Needless to say, the view from the seventy-first floor was amazing and the atmosphere throughout the entire round of the restaurant offered a new feel with each new view and made for an awesome after dinner stroll on the way out.

This is certainly a nice place to have a fancy birthday or anniversary dinner. The lamb was so succulent and the New York strip is so tender. If you want a cocktail, get the blackberry press. It's so refreshing. The food is so delicious and I love how it comes in courses. The service is also wonderful. They were so understanding when we asked them if we could take our third course to go because our babysitter needed us home.

From start to finish, our experience was phenomenal. It was rather difficult to choose 1 of each of the 3 courses! We did get the carpaccio and oysters. When I made the reservations I requested to be sat at a window. This request was granted, and we had an beautiful view of the Detroit River, Windsor, and the Ambassador Bridge. Impeccable service. While this is a high class place, there is a feel of casualness. There is absolutely no stuffiness. Highlands provided a meal and experience that is easily in top 3 dining experiences we have had, and the couple we were with, it is the best experience they had ever had. Everything is a flavor explosion!! Perfectly plated, we almost didn't want to mess up our plates by eating it. Oysters: some of the best oysters we have ever had. They come with some sort of sweet horseradish shaved ice. Yes horseradish shaved ice. Parking tip: if you park at the beaubian parking garage, they will validate it, or you can also valet at the Marriott.
